6 Things to Bring to a Walk4Hearing [Infographic]

Get ready for a great event with these tips

One of our favorite parts of Walk4Hearing are the fun t-shirts that teams create!

Every year, thousands of people take part in the Walk4Hearing, a nationwide 5K walk event that supports the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA). Joining your local walk is a great way to show your support and raise awareness of hearing health, along with funds to support amazing hearing-related causes!

Whether you’re planning to walk alone, with friends, or in a team, prepare for a great experience by bringing these items:

  1. Comfortable walking shoes
  2. Team shirts
  3. Water & snacks
  4. A sign
  5. Hat & sunscreen
  6. A great attitude!

Keep reading for more info on what to bring to a Walk4Hearing!

Comfortable walking shoes

The most important thing to bring to a Walk4Hearing is a good pair of shoes. You’ll want to wear shoes that are comfortable but also provide support for a long trek. It’s best to break them in before the event — now’s not the time to try out those brand-new sneakers! Make sure your shoes are well-fitted and won’t rub in the wrong places and cause blisters, so you can walk safely and comfortably.

Team shirts

Participating in the Walk4Hearing is much more fun with a group! Recruit your friends and family by sharing why hearing health is important to you. Once you have enough people on board, create a memorable look for your team by having everyone wear the same t-shirt! You could even create custom t-shirts that feature your team name, the Walk4Hearing logo, and a design that’s meaningful to you.

Water & snacks

Since this is an event that revolves around physical activity, you’ll need to drink plenty of water before, during, and after the walk. Bring a water bottle and some snacks to keep you hydrated and energized. Whether you’re walking in a group or solo, bringing extra snacks is a surefire way to make friends along the way!

A sign

Show your support and make a statement with a sign. You can make one by using paint or markers to decorate poster boards or a large piece of cardboard. Brainstorm a short, catchy message that will tell onlookers what Walk4Hearing is all about and encourage them to take care of their hearing too.

Hat and sunscreen

Even if it’s not supposed to be a sunny day, be sure to bring a hat and some sunscreen. UV rays are sneaky and can slip right through the clouds. And in the spirit of ear health, don’t forget sunscreen on the ears — they’re often one of the most forgotten places to apply it!

A great attitude!

No matter how far you walk, who you’re walking with, or what the weather is like, you’re making a difference just by being there. Enjoy the chance to surround yourself with like-minded people as you get fresh air and exercise in support of hearing health!
